Life Despite Lupus started in 2011 when I decided to take my personal blog and try to make it a more wide-reaching website. I was diagnosed with lupus in 2000 and blogging about how I learned to cope with the symptoms, treatments and life changes helped keep my spirits up. Along the way, I found others – many, many others – also choosing to make the most of their lives and live to their fullest despite lupus. It’s been an awesome experience to write for you and maybe pass on a few helpful ideas I’ve picked up along the way.
However, as of Jan 2016, I will no longer be adding posts to Life Despite Lupus. The site will stay up and I’ll try to add any good links to the Resource pages when I can. I’ve been working on other projects and want to be able to give 110% of my energy and attention there. Unlike when I was diagnosed, there are so many truly fantastic lupus blogs and websites now, that I feel like I don’t have much left to contribute that isn’t already being done. So, with a new year, I want to shift focus in a new direction. If you’d like to come along, feel free to follow me on Facebook (no need to send a Friend Request, there should be an option to follow my posts).
So, my final advice for all you awesome, kick-ass lupus warriors is to live smarter, not harder. Be open to doing all the same old things in new, more healthy ways. Don’t let any of the nay-sayers (even the ones in your own head) even try to shame you for using your energy how you damn well please (house not clean enough or you pay someone else to clean it? Guess what? It’s just f**king fine that way) and doing what you need to make your life work. Change is not something to be afraid of; it’s something to embrace.
Thanks for the 3.5 years folks!
